The BMW Z1 is a rare and weird thing in america so stick with me as I force feed you some history. In 1986 BMW was convinced they invented the future. A small, somewhat practical roadster with peek-a-boo doors (see video) and interchangeable panels. They were so convinced that when it came to naming the car they named it "Zukunft 1" or "Future One" for us ally powers.

To be fair to the Germans it is one of the most 90's looking things to ever be designed in the 80's. As it states in the Craigslist ad, the drive line and most of the mechanical mumbo jumbo are straight from the E30 cars so parts are easy to get. The biggest issues seem to be cosmetic which is perfect since BMW encouraged buyers to buy multiple sets of panels so the owner could "change the color of the car in 40 minutes". So conceivably, all that needs doing is some panel/tail light hunting and you will have a very expensive roadster with cool doors that is worse than a Miata!

Not-so Pros
