Stand out from the crowd, but not in the way that you would like
1979 Lotus Eclat
Lotus has always been obsessed with making small, light cars. So obsessed, in fact, that they often disregard everything else for the sake of lightness, especially looks. There is a long history there of making great-driving but not-so-great-looking cars. Take the Elise, for example. Or the Europa. Sadly though, the Europa is not the worst of the lot.
Here we have a Lotus Eclat. You've probably never heard of it. And I don't mean that in a pretentious, hipster way. I mean that because the Eclat is like the relative that your family keeps upstairs in the attic and pretends doesn't exist. All of the features that make up a really cool, small sports car are here, but unfortunately none of them are well executed. Still, who can pass up an inexpensive, one owner, low-mile Lotus? You'll definitely stand out from the crowd, but maybe not in the way that you would like.
Pros
- One-owner, 23k miles
- 2+2 seating
- It's... rare
Not-so Pros
- Uglier than a Europa
- Looks only a mother could love
- Sadly, not a Lotus Eclair
