1959 Renault Dauphine
French cars are a rarity in the U.S., so right off the bat you have good reason to be interested in today's deal. This 1959 Renault Dauphine is an excellently original example that was sentimental to its previous owner only to be painstakingly resurrected by the current owner who happens to be so French even his American-based website is en français.
The Renault Dauphine is an oddball rear-engine sedan with a four-cylinder engine mated to a 3-speed gearbox. Just looking into the wide-eyed and ocean blue Dauphine should send you straight back to the post-war France of de Gaulle. I hope you like wine, cheese, and Cold War Europe.
The French have an affinity for strange sedans; just look at the Citroen DS. What a beguiling thing. Sure, this Dauphine isn't a DS, but that doesn't make it any less amiable. C'est bonne, n'est pas?
Pros
- Rear-engined, like a Porsche 911 (or the Renault-Alpine A110, I guess)
- French women will love it
- Comes with an English language manual
Not-so Pros
- Not a Porsche 911
- Driving a French car in America is taboo
